He recalls his visits to various boutiques and department stores, finding nothing but a repetitive array of checkers and pinstripes. “Smaller checkers, bigger checkers, pinstripe, smaller pinstripe stripe. And that’s about it,” he says. It was this realization that sparked the creation of Barabas, a line that would offer men more trendy, more fashionable choices.

The Evolution of Barabas: From Concept to Couture

Barabas’s journey from a single retail store to a fashion powerhouse is a story of ambition and success. “We started at the bottom, a single shirt… Then we added polos, T-shirts, jackets, and now we have a full collection for men,” Sam recounts. The brand’s growth is evident in its expansion from a modest 10×10 booth to a series of 10 booths at MAGIC, reflecting the increasing demand for their unique designs.

The road to success was fraught with challenges, particularly when it came to protecting their unique designs at trade shows just like MAGIC Las Vegas. “The biggest challenge that we faced in the market… we got copied,” Sam reveals. The brand took decisive action to safeguard their intellectual property, even implementing surveillance to deter copycats. “We were the first guys and probably still we are the only one that put cameras on our booths,” he says.

Looking to the future, Barabas aims to broaden its offerings and reach. “We still lack some accessories, perfumes… the next five years’ goal is to start opening retail stores with the Barabas name, and expanding our offering” Sam shares, outlining the brand’s ambitious plans. The long-term vision includes franchising, ensuring that Barabas’s distinctive style is accessible worldwide.
